Hefty® ReNew™ Orange Bag Program

The Hefty® Renew™ Orange Bag Program (formerly known as the Hefty® EnergyBag® Program) provides participating residents a way to collect hard-to-recycle plastics that are not accepted within the curbside recycle cart or at the Meridian Transfer Station. These orange bags serve as a way to divert various plastics from the landfill. There is no monthly cost to use this program.

How to participate:

  • Purchase the Renew™ bags at participating grocery stores.* Visit the Hefty® ReNew™ website for a full list of retailers.
  • Collect acceptable items.
    • For a current list of accepted items, please visit the Hefty® ReNew website.
    • Remember, items must be clean, dry, and free of any foil lining.
  • Place full, securely tied bags in your recycling cart.

* If you have leftover Hefty® EnergyBag® orange bags, they will still be accepted.

What happens next to the orange bags?

  • Republic Services’ drivers will haul your orange bags, with regular curbside recyclables, to the recycling processing facility located in Boise. There, the bags are hand-separated from the curbside recyclables and transported to cement manufacturing facilities that utilize the plastic for an energy resource that replaces some of the coal that fuels their kilns.
